International students are non-immigrant visitors who come to the United States temporarily to take classes. A non-immigrant visitor is someone who intends to stay in the US temporarily and does not have US citizenship or legal permanent resident status (a "green card"). In the ASIR dashboards, this data element is used as an Ethnicity category and a Residence Status.

Examples[edit | edit source]

Term Definition
International (for fee purposes) A student with Residence Status Foreign Country ("F"). This category is labeled “Non-Res Intl” or “Interntl (F)” in the ASIR dashboards.
International Ethnicity A student who is not a citizen or national of the United States and who is in this country on a visa or temporary basis and does not have the right to remain indefinitely (Citizenship Codes: F, J, O, N).
