Four (4) alphanumeric characters. The code for United States is always 7900.

"The country of citizenship. COSAR Table 2 contains the current listing of the valid countries to which a student can be a citizen, which includes "60" for the United States possessions, and "70" for foreign countries and associated territories. The code for United States is always 7900."[1]
