Total Support Fraction (TSF)

Total Support Fraction (TSF) is a faculty data element which represents the portion of a faculty person’s position paid via the state instructional budget such that a value of 1.000 represents a full time appointment. Latter may include class instruction (“IFF”) and/or other adjunct support (“OSF”). A “coverage” of 25% over and above a full time appointment is allowed under certain conditions as per article 36 in the California Faculty Association labor relations contract. The value is the sum of the Instructional Administrative Fraction (IAF), Instructional Faculty Fraction (IFF), and Other Support Fraction (OSF).

Logical Transformation/Calculation[edit | edit source]

Total Support Fraction (TSF), also known as Total Time Base (Timebase) = Instructional Faculty Fraction (IFF) + Instructional Administrative Fraction (IAF) + Other Support Fraction (OSF).

Examples[edit | edit source]

If an individual has a full-time faculty appointment, his or her Total Support Fraction must be 1.000. The Instructional Faculty Fraction for that individual could be 0.500; however, an additional 0.500 fraction must be reported in either Instructional Administrative Fraction or Other Support Fraction. On the other hand, if a individual has only a half-time faculty appointment, the Total Support Fraction must be 0.500. Total Support Fraction cannot be greater than 1.000 for any one individual no matter how many assignments the individual has.
