State Residence (IPEDS)

State Residence (IPEDS) categorizes the residence status of students as "California" for students from counties in California, by their state for students from other states, and combines students from other countries into the category of "foreign". These value categories are also listed in the order they appear in IPEDS reporting.

"A person's permanent address as determined by such evidence as a driver's license or voter registration. For entering freshmen, state of residence may be the legal state of residence of a parent or guardian."[1]
